$560 towards $2,000

Red Door Animal Shelter in West Rogers Park provides vet care, food, shelter, and socialization for homeless cats, rabbits, dogs, and the occasional duck or chicken until we can find them permanent homes. Last year, we found homes for 200 rabbits, mostly Easter Bunnies bought in pet stores or bred in backyards and dumped outside when they proved to be more work than their purchasers had anticipated. We also found homes for over 100 cats. Something else we did: our staff distributed donated food and supplies to low-income pet owners so they could keep their furry friends (last Friday of the month, 1 p.m., at the Howard Area Community Center [www.howardarea.org], 7648 N. Paulina, Chicago).

Please consider giving to the families and pets who benefit from Red Door's mission. Every donation counts, no matter the amount. And for donors who are willing and able, because this site limits your donation, please use this link to donate. (Tell them Tamara sent you!)

Just a small donation will go a long way to helping me meet my goal for the shelter, where I've been a regular volunteer for over 10 years. A minimum donation of $25 will automatically register you for the pirate-themed Walk for the Animals event on Sunday June 9th at Indian Boundary Park, 2500 W Lunt in Chicago.
